A Room of One’s Own

Virginia Woolf had the right idea when she wrote A Room of One’s Own. When the enormity of the world feels a little to big to manage there’s nothing like a special place where you can block out all of that noise and feel safe to be yourself. I don’t think this is unique for certain ages. I think it’s true of all ages. And so I thought Addison might like a special place to call her own. I made her a tent out of old sheets and a dog bed. The dog bed gets placed on the floor and the dining room chairs get bumped up against it. Then the sheet gets unfolded and thrown over the whole thing. It’s easy to put up, easy to take down and easy to store.
It did the trick but it was missing the magic to transform it from a drab sheet over some chairs into something much better. I took apart a felt ball garland and sewed the balls to the opening. I also made about a dozen or more felt stars and hung them from the ceiling. Now it’s a place for playing, dreaming and enjoying a little peace and quiet.
