A Japanese Print Cardamome

January 26, 2025

#friendolynwardrobe had a beautiful vision for this project right from the start. She wanted to use several different Japanese prints to create a version of the Cardamome Dress by Deer & Doe Patterns that really highlighted the style lines. She also found three vintage buttons that match perfectly in size and colour but each have a different design. The overall dress has a hint of patchwork but the common colours keep everything cohesive.

I made this dress for her a few years ago but it recently made its way back into the studio for an update. She wanted the dress to be 2 inches longer. Sometimes 2 inches can be the difference between wearing something and not wearing something. I’m so glad she decided to bring it back in. It was a pretty easy fix. Since the bottom band was a different fabric already and she had some of the same print leftover, it was just a matter of cutting new, longer pieces to replace the old ones. And now it’s back to being a favourite.
