April 2025

I sometimes feel like it’s a waste of time to take pictures of flowers. There are billions of photos of flowers out there. Surely every possible photo has already been taken. If you’ve seen one tulip, you’ve seen them all. Thank goodness this logic doesn’t apply when I bring flowers into my life. I admire them when I’m walking. I plant them in my garden. I bring giant armfuls into my house. And I never think “if I’ve seen one tulip, I’ve seen them all.” Flowers are endlessly beautiful and taking photos of them is just another way to bring them into my life. I love looking back through blog posts, or the camera roll on my phone and find that my years of memories are peppered with flowers: fresh, dried, in a bunch, arranged in a vase, for special occasions or just because. This month, after a long, grey winter, with my eyes starved of colour, I started collecting more flowers. I put them in vases, watched them sprout up in my garden, gave some as gifts and I also loaded my camera roll.
