Photographic Lies
February 25, 2025
I am the Elaine Benes of the spinning world. Legs this way, hands that way, uncoordinated and hilarious to watch. This first photograph makes it look like I know what I’m doing but that is a nanosecond in time. You would have to see a video to know what’s really happening and it would tell a very different story.
Even this second photograph is lying. The bobbin is seemingly wound with uniformity and ease but once I unwind some, there’s no hiding from the truth.
It’s fat, tight, thin, underspun, fuzzy, loose, over-twisted and all of it is happening in less than a metre. Somehow, I’m still finding it fun. Maybe one day I’ll get some real moves and my yarn will reflect the elevation in my coordination. I can dream.
