Hello again

December 18, 2024

There was a time when it seemed like everyone was blogging. All of a sudden, it seemed like nobody was. I was definitely a part of that statistic. I was blogging pretty regularly up until 2017 when things came to an abrupt end. I logged out of my blog and into my Instagram account.

I posted fairly regularly on Instagram until 2019. Then I took on two consecutive 365 day projects and I posted there every day for two years. I put a lot of effort into recording what was happening in my life. I would occasionally see people who had their account hacked and everything they had put on Instagram was lost. It was gone in the blink of an eye and it was almost like everything they had recorded hadn’t happened. I realized I had created a beautiful record of what was of a pretty hard time in my life and I didn’t want it to disappear. I tried to make a back up of my account but aside from going into a minimum of 730 entries and manually copying and pasting them all, those entries were stuck there. While I tried to make peace with that realization, I stopped posting. I haven’t posted there for a year.

The fallout from that decision is that I have no record of this past year. I took pictures and I have memories but when I look back at what I’ve created other years, this past year feels pretty thin. I read some of the things I’ve written over the years and I’m surprised by them. I don’t remember writing a lot of that stuff but as soon as I read it or see the photos, it all comes flooding back. I like to think that in a hundred years from now, my family will be interested in what I had to say. Maybe they won’t but I like to think that they will.

My answer to this dilemma is to return to the blog. This feels like the best way to record my story. There are no algorithms, or hacking scares. Who knows, maybe there are hacking scares but I have a back up of my blog so the threat isn’t eating away at me the same way. I’ll be posting here in a pretty regular way. I’ll be talking about things that happen in my life, about things that I like to make with my hands, about clothes that I sew for myself and clothes that I sew for other people through Micheline Made, and Reese will be making a pretty regular appearance.

You can stop here as often as you like to see what I’m up to but the best way to keep up will be to subscribe to my newsletter. At the end of every month, I will send out an email with a quick catch up about what has been happening around here and I’ll include links to all of the blog posts I’ve published that month.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to subscribe.

The first newsletter goes out at the end of December. The trip I made to Scotland in September and the big pile of photographs I took while I was there will be featured pretty heavily this month. I hope to see you there!
