A Matchy Matchy Summer Set
August 27, 2025
Do you remember this dress? The intention was always for it to be made out of different prints. The dark blue base of each one creates a harmony for the mixing and matching of all those prints. The dress turned out so well but there were a lot of scraps left over when we were finished. So many scraps that we were able to remove the bottom band and replace it with a wider one and still have enough left to make another whole outfit.
Enter the Matchy Matchy Sewing Club. They have created an entire line of patterns dedicated to solving the eternal scrap pile dilemma. While being excellent scrap busters, their patterns are also very thoughtful, modern and a lot of fun to wear. #friendolywardrobe thought this would be the perfect answer for all of those beautiful scraps and she was so right! We paired the Collage Gather Top with the Weekend Chore Shorts to come up with this summer set.
It’s such a clever way to use up scraps and play with patterns all at the same time.
There was a lot of the wave fabric left and since the top was already so busy, we decided to keep the shorts simple and just make them entirely out of this print. Pattern matching this perfectly imperfect print was a fun challenge. It was impossible to get everything to match up exactly but it came pretty close. Can you spot the pocket?
Now she’s all set for a bike riding, lemonade sipping, market going, boat sailing kind of summer.
